# Sources & method

This site is run anonymously, so trust comes from the method. Breed weights — 181 dog breeds and 11 cat breeds — come from Wikidata (CC0), published by the Wikimedia Foundation, and are re-checked weekly by an automated query. The dog-age formula is Wang et al. (2020). The cat-age table follows International Cat Care; the Cornell Feline Health Center publishes a different one, a gap of 3 human years that holds constant past age 2, so the calculator shows both. Growth timing is Hawthorne et al. (2004) for puppies and DiGangi et al. (2019) for kittens, a study that stops at 20 weeks. Calorie needs for both species start from the same Merck Veterinary Manual formula, checked for cats against a table the WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee publishes using a different formula. No number is invented by a robot.
